I began my fitness journey a little over 2 years ago. In January 2015, I began my first challenge group with my coach that ultimately changed my life. I was a competitive swimmer from the age of 6 to 22. I ate like a swimmer too, averaging 3000 calories a day of pasta, bread, burgers, french fries, all the cookies I would want… I had no limit! I trained 4-5 hours a day so I would burn all of it off after a day’s workout. I was thin, lots of muscle, and stayed consistent in my weight throughout the years.
Then I graduated. I stopped swimming. At that moment, I felt burned out. After 16 years of training all-year-round, 4-5 hours a day, I was done. I didn’t want to step foot in the weight room or pool deck. I knew NOTHING about nutrition. I was used to eating a TON of food each day, without realizing what is good and what is bad..
After 3 years, I gained 35 lbs. I was frustrated and depressed about the way my body looked and felt. I could not believe that I had let myself go the way I did. Being fit and healthy and thin my whole life, I never thought I would be the girl to be unhealthy and overweight. I had high cholesterol too from my love of fried foods!
I didn’t know where to start but I needed something because my lack of confidence was affecting my relationships with my family, my confidence and my energy level keeping up with my puppies and life in general. I was looking for a way to get in shape and shed those unwanted pounds from my weight gain but going to the gym was not in the budget at the time. A friend from college had messaged me about this challenge that she was doing and asked if I would be interested. I figured, what the heck I’ll give it a shot. What’s the worst that could happen?
“The first step towards getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.”
I signed up for a free Team Beachbody account and took before pictures and got my measurements and began the challenge. I decided that Insanity Max:30 would be my program of choice. Lots and lots of cardio! And only 30 minutes a day! The pictures alone made me want to hurl, so that was definitely my motivation to get in shape!
I started with the Cardio Challenge for Insanity Max:30 and just about fell over dead! But I decided from that moment on that I was going to give it everything that I had and make a change. I needed to feel better about myself. I was 167 lbs and that was the heaviest I had ever been.
People say that you just need 21 days of consistency to form a habit. During those 3 weeks, it was tough but after the 3 weeks, I was hooked. I could see that my body was changing and I was able to do more push ups and more power jumps but I still couldn’t do the entire workout without taking little breaks.
I lost 5lbs after the first 30 days, which doesn’t seem like a lot but my body was truly changing! I felt like I wasn’t losing weight fast enough so I researched Shakeology. I was hesitant at first, obviously since I only started with the program. After researching, I found that Shakeology was the best, all-natural, nutrient-dense, meal replacement, protein, daily vitamin shake combo out there! There was a 30 day guarantee so I figured WHY NOT?!
After the next 30 days, I lost an additional 10 lbs. Shakeology helped me jumpstart my weight loss. I was amazed! That a 30 minute at-home workout + nutrient-dense superfood shake could give me those results! I felt amazing but I was still nowhere near where I wanted to be.
Got the workout. Got the shake. Now, onto nutrition. I jumped on the 21 Day Fix bandwagon. I learned about portion sizes. I learned about what foods you should be eating, and not be eating. It was a simple, easy-to-follow meal plan!
I thought I could just cut out the white pasta or white bread and eat whole grain everything, it would be OK. Even going to diet soda vs. regular. I had no understanding about nutrition and the quality of foods. I began logging meals in an app but it was focused on counting calories, rather than learning the nutritional values of foods. I ditched the app and saw a tremendous difference in the next 30 days and I wasn’t starving, actually I was eating MORE food than ever before. It was just the RIGHT kind of foods instead.
I started planning out my meals too! They say, “if you fail to plan then you plan to fail.” I did an overhaul of my fridge. I did weekend grocery trips to get all the groceries for the next week. From my experience, before meal planning, I would come home from work and find myself eating snacks while I figure out what to make for dinner. When I didn’t have much, it would be pan-fried chicken (because it’s quick) or a frozen pizza or running to get take-out.
I was lucky too because Shakeology was already a meal planned out for me, which was my breakfast. It helped with my energy levels and cravings too. I literally snacked all day. A handful of goldfish out the door. A processed granola bar in the car. Reese’s peanut butter cups every time I passed the candy jar. It adds up! I didn’t even realize I was doing it. It’d be swallowing it and be like “oh crap, I did it again!”
Realizing my bad habits, planning every single breakfast/lunch and dinner every week, drinking my Shakeology, and doing a 30 minute workout everyday, has CHANGED MY LIFE.
Now, I get up at 6:30 am to workout and eat 6 small meals a day with Shakeology being one of them. I feel the best that I’ve ever felt in my life, even when I was a competitive swimmer. I am now back down to that same weight doing 30 minute workouts and eating right! I am down 2 pant sizes. I am confident in my own skin. I love myself again.
I also became a Beachbody coach because I love the products and I have had such amazing results that I wanted to share my successes with others and help them to achieve their health and fitness goals too. It doesn’t stop here! Check back for updates on my fitness journey!
My Progress Updates
I finished 60 days of Insanity Max:30. I feel amazing! I lost about 15 lbs total. I love Shakeology. I drink it for breakfast every day. Chocolate, peanut butter, and banana is my recipe of choice. I no longer have stomach issues! I no longer mindlessly snack all day! I have so much energy too! My goals for my next workout program is to continue with cardio, losing weight, but also meal planning! Focusing on nutrition next!
I love Shaun T. I recently completed T25. A 25 minute workout while also focusing on eating better! Still not an 80/20 lifestyle. I’m probably more of a 60/40 type of girl. But hey, I’ll get there! It’s not a quick fix – it’s a journey! I lost albs and 10 inches doing 9 weeks of T25. Short, quick, intense workout! I LOVE EXERCISING! I work out between 5-7 times a week, not because I have to… because I want to! It’s my passion and my addiction!
My wedding is officially 1 month away! What better way to get ready than a new fitness program + Shakeology! I did 2 months of 22 Minute Hard Corps with a few weeks of Hell week thrown in 🙂 I love this program. Only 22 minutes, 7 moves, 3 rounds. Killer workout!
I’ve been consistently working out everyday since I started with Beachbody 2 years ago! My nutrition has been up and down, but workouts have stayed the same! It marks the longest I have stuck by something in my life! I completed the newest workout, Core de Force. I completed T25 again, up until the start of the Ultimate Reset. I had to stop with the workouts I’ve been doing and sub in yoga, stretching, and light walking. The 21 day Ultimate Reset turned my life around! I followed the meal plan. No cheats. No alcohol. No chocolate. It’s been 2 weeks after the Reset, and I ditched the bad habits, have so much energy, and feel great! Highly recommend this program.
What I can say is this… when you want to change more than you want to stay the same you are going to do whatever it takes.
Stick with me because I will continue to share my journey as I move through my health and fitness!
