My Very 1st 5K COMPLETE!

So running is not my forte. I was a competitive swimmer from age 6 up until I graduated college at 22. We never really had to run. The occasional timed 20 or 30 minute runs during preseason but it was literally 3 times a year and it was mostly run/walk. I don’t think I’ve ever run over a mile without stopping to walk. If so, only a couple of times!

I also don’t think I ever truly learned how to run. People say stay on the balls of your feet but someone told me I was doing heel to toe… WHO KNOWS!

Running just hurt to me. And it was so BORING. I can’t do the same thing for over 10 minutes.. I was the girl at the gym doing 10 minutes on treadmill, 10 minutes on elliptical, 10 minutes on bike, and 10 minutes on stair climber. I guess I don’t have the motivation and attention span to get a long run in! Ha!

When my little cousin asked me and my other cousin to do a 5K benefiting Girls on the Run with her, I couldn’t say no. It’s going down May 20th!

Girls on the Run 5K

I joined my cousin in Girls on the Run. What a great organization! They inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using running! All about inner strength, which is amazing! The girls train for 10 weeks and it ends with the celebratory 5K.

I barely trained for this. As you can see above in my log, I ran only a handful of times AND only went up to a 2 mile run. When we got to the event, there were a TON of people! I heard there were about 3000 girls participating, which is AMAZING! So it would be double, if not triple with us running buddies!

So much inspiration. So much confidence. So much positivity. So much fun!! Running the entire 3.1 miles was actually not tough! Some hills were challenging and I am definitely sore now but holy crap, the cheering and positivity all around made it so easy! And running with family doesn’t hurt either 🙂

I would absolutely do it again! What a great event and cause! Empowering girls and teaching that they can do ANYTHING!
